This mandala-like composition gathers natural emblems employed across symbolic traditions. A bird carries the principle of air. A crab shell brings water and protection, the armoring that allows soft life to endure. A rare four-leaf clover speaks to earth and the anomalies of growth beyond the expected triad. Spiraling shelf mushrooms embody time and transformation, the cyclical metabolism by which forests renew. These forms invite multiple elemental readings (air, water, earth, fire, and a fifth principle of space/ether). Here, “fire” is not illustrated as flame but suggested by the generative spiral itself, the inward/outward movement that catalyzes change, while ether is implied by the negative space around the corner forms.
Field Note: Drawn from gathered specimens and direct observation, bird, shell, clover, seed and bracket fungi, composed into a meditation on how living forms hold and balance the elemental forces.
